North America is home to nearly 590 million people. North America is surrounded by three main oceans, the Arctic, Atlantic and Pacific. With North America consisting of 23 countries which include The United States, Mexico, Canada and many others. The continent of North America includes Greenland, Canada, The United States and Mexico where as the region of North America is not defined by countries but is defined by characteristics.
However, the continent should not be confused with the world region.
Cultural Greenland, Canada, The United States and Mexico are all different but the biggest difference would be between The United States and Mexico. Language is a huge factor when it comes to defining these regions because Mexico has a native language where as The United States does not. They are also different when it comes to cost of living. In the United States it cost more to live than it does in Mexico.
However, Mexico is not part of the socioeconomic and cultural region of North America.
Though these places are different as a whole when it comes to being a region they all come together and make the continent of North America.
In Regional Geography the name “North America” refers to the United States and Canada. This should not be confused with the continental land mass North America.
